The planning and construction of Portovesme plants is conducted in accordance with the relevant regulatory requirements which aim to minimise harmful emissions and maximise occupational safety.
For more information, please see our latest sustainability report.
Air quality
Portovesme S.r.l. ensures emission limits are met by using certified analysers, periodically certified and checked by External Certification Bodies. The applied Environmental Management System is certified according to ISO 14001 standards.
Waste disposal and recycling
Several waste types are derived from Portovesme’s production activity. Some are treated internally, while non-hazardous special waste is sent to the Genna Luas disposal site. In addition, Portovesme closes the zinc waste recycling cycle through the treatment of steel mill fumes.
Environmental Rehabilitation
Portovesme S.r.l. runs two important environmental rehabilitation projects. The first relates to superficial and deep land matrices of non-pavement areas; the second involves aquifers and uses a specific intervention based on pumping technology, water treatment and confinement through a network of wells and piezometers on the overall industrial plant area.
Water treatment
The water treatment plant is an essential part of the plant’s production system. It deals with around 1000 mc/h of process and rain waters through metal precipitation guaranteeing water depuration, as required under law.
